JUNIOR SCIENCE

If you want know why practice makes you better at something then read on.

When you practice you repeat the same action over and over. The process of repetition generates a reaction in your body called 'Myelination'.

'Myelination' is when the substance that surrounds your nerves 'Myelin' develops and gets thicker as a result of the repetitive movement you are doing. This helps to send a better signal through your nervous system to your brain.

Here's an example.

When its cold you put on a jumper and as it gets colder you put on another jumper, then maybe a scarf and some gloves, then a coat, then a hat, then maybe a bigger coat. All the time your body is getting warmer and warmer and you feel better. Because you have insulated yourself against the cold and your brain says 'I'm warm dude'.

Well that's the same as 'Myelination' the more times you kick a ball against a wall, the better your brain will understand what it is doing because the signal being sent to your brain from your nerve endings is stronger because the nerves are insulated by the 'Myelin'  you've worked to develop.
